Exclusive: Skanska hires brokerage to prelease downtown Houston tower

New York-based Skanska USA Commercial Development has retained CBRE’s Houston office to begin preleasing an ambitious downtown office tower, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

Skanska’s Capitol Tower is planned for the site at 811 Rusk St., which is where the former Houston Club building was, which was demolished in October 2014

Here’s what sublease space costs at Houston’s 13 largest multitenant office buildings

Five of Houston’s largest multitenant office buildings have 10 percent or more of their leasable space on the sublease market at significantly discounted rates, according to data provided by Commercial Gateway.

H-E-B division president talks potential Heights store plans

There could be a two-story H-E-B store coming to the Heights.

Scott McClelland, H-E-B Grocery Co.’s Houston division president, told the Houston Business Journal after an Oct. 7 luncheon that an 80,000-square-foot store could open as soon as early 2018. The San Antonio-based grocer hopes to build a store at the old Fiesta Mart’s site on North Shepherd Drive.

Houston passes $97B in exports

HOUSTON – The Houston area ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for total goods exported in 2015, which surpassed $97 billion, according to a new U.S. Department of Commerce report. It’s part of a larger merchandise export growth trend from U.S. metro areas that topped $1.3 trillion last year.

It’s also the fourth year in a row the Bayou City has paced the nation in total goods exported.

Houston was one of four cities that exceeded $50 billion in goods exported in 2015—the Bayou City beat out New York, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Here’s what Houston’s master-planned community scene will look like in 2035

Houston’s top master-planned community developers will complete nearly 67,000 acres of projects in the Houston area by the year 2035, according to HBJ’s Largest Master-Planned Community Developers List.

That means that at least one of the nine developers ranked on the list will wrap up one major master-planned community near some of Houston’s fastest-growing employment and retail centers almost every year from 2016 until 2035.
