Nothing plain about Plano: Texas’ 9th largest city makes the case for why it’s No. 1

Its terrain might be as flat as its name suggests, but Plano’s stock is rising as fast or faster than any other city in Texas. The community of 270,000 added a staggering 11,000 job to its economy in 2014 and 2015 with an onslaught of corporate relocations guaranteed to add to that total in the years to come.

“We’re a big city and we’re a strong community,” said Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere. “Despite being the ninth largest city in Texas and 72 square miles in size, we still have a sense of community and that really is a difference maker.”

History & a future: Welcome to Van Alstyne

The tale goes that Collin McKinney was given the pen he used to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. At 70, he was the oldest member of the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos. McKinney’s true pioneer story started long before the convention, but it ends right where ours begins: in Van Alstyne, Texas.

It’s the idea to which most all of us subscribe, especially in the real estate industry: work hard and you will find success. It won’t always be easy; sometimes, it will be incredibly difficult, but it’s the American Dream. By definition, it’s “the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.” Settled in the 1840s, Arlington is now the seventh-largest city in Texas and its population of nearly 400,000 makes it the thirdlargest city in the Metroplex. That position, though, didn’t come easily. It was the result of hard work, determination and initiative, which is why Arlington is “The American Dream City.”
