Amazon reportedly eyes NW Houston for new facility

Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) reportedly is interested in building a fulfillment center in a major northwest Houston business park — and is seeking a tax abatement to do so.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Harris County Commissioner Court documents show Amazon plans to build a 855,000-square-foot warehouse in the 970-acre Pinto Business Park at the southwest corner of Interstate 45 North and Beltway 8. Amazon’s proposed $136 million facility would be separate from the company’s Prime Now facility in Humble and could bring 1,000 jobs to the area, the Chronicle reports.

The facility is estimated to have an economic impact of $172.9 million annually, and Amazon is seeking an abatement to lower its taxes to 65 percent for 10 years, the Chronicle reports.
