Berkadia, the Berkshire Hathaway-backed real estate company providing capital markets and investment sales advisory services for multifamily and commercial property investors, has recruited an eight-person multifamily investment sales team formerly part of CBRE’s Capital Markets Multi-Housing Group in Houston.
Led by Senior Managing Director Ryan Epstein, the team also includes Managing Director Clint Duncan, Associate Directors Wes Breed and Jennifer Ray, and support staff. All will report to Berkadia’s Head of Investment Sales Keith Misner.
“This group of individuals is known throughout the industry as one of the top multifamily investment sales teams in the country, specifically in Houston,” said Misner. “Adding a team of this caliber — which has worked together for a number of years — immediately strengthens our Texas presence.”
Since 2006, the sales team has marketed and sold assets valued at more than $4.5 billion and has been ranked among top producers nationally, working with a client base of REITs, pension funds, private investment companies and local and national developers.
Berkadia has been aggressively expanding and adding staff across its markets. So far in January alone the company has:
- Added Managing Director Joe Leon and Senior Director Jeff Rowerdink in Irvine, CA, and Managing Director James Fisher and Senior Director Mike Smith in West Los Angeles, all joining the company’s multifamily investment sales team in Southern California. Those hires follow by three months Berkadia’s addition of five to its multifamily investment sales team in San Diego.
- Added an investment sales service line in its Bethesda, MD, office with the hiring of Scott Melnick to its multifamily investment sales team. Formerly a managing director of JLL’s Mid-Atlantic Multifamily Group, Melnick is responsible for expanding the company’s national multifamily investment sales platform in the mid-Atlantic region.
- Expanded its recently formed Hotels & Hospitality Group in Philadelphia and Washington DC with the hiring of Managing Directors John J. DePaul, David Weymer and Mark Morris.
Berkadia, a joint venture of Berkshire Hathaway and Leucadia National Corp., ranks among the largest primary, master and special servicers in the industry. It is a qualified Freddie Mac Program Plus lender, Fannie Mae DUS multifamily seller/servicer, an insurance company correspondent, and HUD, MAP and LEAN originator and servicer. The company also offers interim and short-term financing through its proprietary bridge lending program.
Before being acquired by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway investment firm, Berkadia Commercial Mortgage was a commercial real estate lender and special servicer that operated as a division of Capmark Financial. In 2012, Berkadia Commercial Mortgage combined with Phoenix-based Hendricks & Partners, a national multifamily sales brokerage firm with 37 offices in the U.S.
